Yesterday evening's dinner was lasagna with Caesar salad, along with a delicious pesto pasta for our dairy-free campers. One of the best parts of camp is seeing everyone find something they enjoy. Whether a camper eats just about anything, has food allergies, or is simply a picky eater, our kitchen always works hard to make sure everyone leaves the dining hall with a full tummy.
Our evening activity was Survival, a camp favorite. Campers were assigned different parts of the food chain, including herbivores, omnivores, carnivores, humans, and diseases, and then set loose for an epic game that's part tag, part strategy, and part jog-a-thon for the staff. Campers who preferred a quieter evening could relax in the Chill Zone, where they read books, played Uno, listened to music, or simply hung out with friends.
This morning started with a hearty breakfast of eggs, sausage, and potatoes before everyone headed off to their morning focus areas.
Book Club has been living up to its name with plenty of reading, while Comic Book Making continues to be one of the session's most popular focuses. Campers have been creating their own comics, sometimes working in teams to split up the storytelling, dialogue, and artwork. Over in Wearable Crafts, embroidery has been keeping everyone busy, and campers are creating some impressive pieces they'll be able to take home.
Morning electives offered something for everyone. Karaoke could be heard echoing across camp as campers enthusiastically sang their favorite songs. Viking vs. Pirates featured paddleboarding with a healthy dose of mutiny. Swim Lessons took a humorous turn as campers taught their counselors how to swim. Everyone stayed safe in life jackets while practicing leadership skills and having plenty of laughs.
Lunch was another favorite: macaroni and cheese with sweet potato fries.
This afternoon's focus areas have kept campers busy with everything from Dungeons & Dragons adventures to Princess Mermaid Training. Mermaid trainees made flower crowns (no seaweed available!) before practicing their mermaid dives at the waterfront. Thanks to yesterday's efforts removing water milfoil, conditions were perfect for swimming. The Puzzle focus has also been going strong, and despite the warm weather, campers have been finding plenty of ways to stay cool throughout the day.
Tonight we're looking forward to another classic camp tradition: Counselor Hunt. Don't worry, the campers always manage to find them!
