Saturday has arrived, which means one thing at Hosmer Point: Link Day! But first, we had to make it through last night’s evening activity, Camper Hunt. And yes, we found them all! Camper Hunt is basically a giant game of jailbreak. Campers race around camp trying to make it into a safe zone, where a movie is playing and they can hang out safely. If a counselor tags you along the way, you’re sent to “jail” and have to complete a silly challenge before you can get back into the game. Challenges included things like reading a page of the dictionary.
Link Day kicked off with something every camper can get behind: a sleep-in! Because sometimes the best way to start a big day of camp is to simply stay in bed a little longer. Breakfast was bagels with all the fixings: lox, cucumbers, cream cheese, pickled onions, and plenty of other toppings to build the perfect bagel.
After cleaning up camp, every camper jumped into the Camp Cup Competition! Campers competed in everything from bracelet making and flower arranging to boat relays, archery, running, tetherball, ping pong, and street hockey. There are already rumors circulating that South is in the lead... but it’s still anyone’s game!
After each cabin got their photo taken at the Community Tree, campers signed up for their Week 2 focus areas. This morning’s options included Build, Farm & Garden, Photography, Boats, Acapella, Minecraft, Comic Creation, Beginner Mountain Biking, Guitar, Book Club, Embroidery, and Capstone for our oldest campers. This afternoon’s focuses included Advanced Sculling, Barbie, Beginner Sailing, Noah Kahan, Thanksgiving Arts & Crafts, D&D, Field Games, Decorating Hosmer, Farm & Garden, Chopped, and Hook & Cook.
Lunch was pita bread sandwiches, followed by some chiller electives this afternoon as everyone gets ready for one of the biggest events of the session...Call of the Loon! Call of the Loon is the greatest competition of the session: an epic race around camp for our oldest campers that puts just about every skill to the test. The course includes swimming, canoeing, tennis, soccer, archery, biking, and running, all culminating in the final challenge: fire building. It’s fast, it’s chaotic, it’s competitive, and most importantly, it’s about camaraderie. We can’t wait!
