Yesterday wrapped up with one of camp's favorite traditions: Dinner on the Hill! Pizza was on the menu, and the pesto pizza turned out to be a huge hit. After dinner came Casino Night. Campers spent the evening playing the games they signed up for, including poker, horse racing, craps, 50/50, and the always-popular Fun Zone. Once the casino closed, each team's winnings were collected along with money from the game stations, and the teams bid on mystery prizes. Some prizes were exciting, like skipping the line for a meal or earning ice cream. Others included things like washing cars. I was told by multiple campers that even the "bad" prizes are actually fun. The night ended with section fires, giving each section time to wind down together before heading to bed.
This morning started with incredible cinnamon rolls that may have set a new camp breakfast standard. After breakfast, everyone pitched in during Community Work Time. Every day, campers help keep camp looking its best, and it's always impressive to see everyone working together. One of today's Focus Areas, Challenge, invited campers to draw different versions of their counselor, leading to plenty of creative and, in some cases, highly questionable artistic interpretations. Electives were in full swing this morning. Splash Ball was a favorite, combining kickball with the shallow end of the waterfront for a game that somehow becomes even more chaotic once everyone is standing in the water.
Lunch featured grilled cheese, which quickly became a favorite. As always, campers who were still hungry could come back for seconds.
Rest Hour gave everyone a chance to recharge, whether relaxing in their cabins or hanging out up top. The tetherball court stayed busy, with plenty of competitive matches throughout the afternoon. This afternoon's focus areas included activities like magazine making. While interviewing campers for today's blog post, I also learned about several elaborate conspiracy theories involving the camp directors. Shout out to the campers in magazine making for their time helping out with this blog post!
As we write this, staff are preparing for the rain that's expected later today. Fingers crossed the weather holds off long enough for tonight's evening activity, Gauntlet. We're hoping to stay dry and keep one of camp's biggest games of the session on schedule!
