Mission & Vision

Hosmer Point, located in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, is a place campers call home. Situated lake-side, the camp provides enriching experiences that foster self-confidence and send young people out into the world better equipped to build community and lead positive change.

Each day is filled with play, work, and exploration which lead to life-long friendships. Our staff are positive role models who teach campers to engage, contribute, and challenge themselves. At camp we live by and instill our community values: Cooperation, Generosity, Kindness, Respect, Trust, and Unity.

As part of a non-profit foundation with the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, we use sustainable practices and teach environmental stewardship.

Above all, campers are the heart of our community.

The HP Way

Community: Attracting families from diverse backgrounds, Hosmer Point enrolls 100 campers per session.  Our campers and staff represent an increasingly broad spectrum of economic backgrounds, family structures, racial, ethnic, and gender identities.  Our small size and emphasis on inclusion builds a strong community, founded on respect for one another.

Activity Choices: Campers set their own schedule for each day, fostering independence and teaching decision making and time management skills.

Sliding Scale Tuition: Families pay what they can afford so camp is a possibility for all children.

Unplugged Campus: No electronics at camp! We promote connecting face-to-face.

Staff: All staff complete criminal background checks, rigorous interviews, and meet our high standards for personal conduct and training. Staff build personal connections with campers through activities and cabin life. A 3:1 camper-to-staff ratio helps each child receive individual attention.

Farm-to-Table Meals: Local and fresh!  We accommodate many dietary restrictions.

Sustainability and Stewardship: We use and teach earth-friendly practices.

Leadership Team

+ Jordan Swank (he/him)

Year-Round Director

Jordan has been lucky enough to work with kids outdoors most of his life, and has been a Director at Hosmer Point since 2022. He grew up going to Wilderness Camp, and is passionate about encouraging everyone to spend time in Nature. He taught students in Maryland, Ohio, and California, where he was the Program Director at Exploring New Horizons Outdoor Schools and helped thousands of 5th and 6th grade students and their high school counselors experience the magic of the Central Coast. A man of many talents, he also spent three years making cheese for Jasper Hill. He loves nature photography, birding, tracking, Ultimate Frisbee and disc golf, making sourdough bread, singing silly songs, telling stories by the campfire, and swimming in as many natural bodies of water as possible. He lives in Greensboro,VT with his wife Julie, two kids, several sheep and ducks, and one big fluffy angora rabbit. You can ask him sometime how he was able to see thousands of gray whales each year from his bed! You can reach Jordan at hosmerpointjordan@gmail.com.

+ Ali Kuhlman (she/her)

Year-Round Director

Ali joins the team in 2024 as our newest year-round Director after spending a year as our mental health consultant and another as our seasonal Director. Over the last 13 years, she has worked as a school social worker in Boston and Vermont. Before getting her degree in social work, she served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mozambique, where she learned to speak Portuguese and to take a really efficient bucket bath! Ali’s daughter, Penny, will be joining her for a second summer and they both look forward to time in the Arts & Crafts cabin and at the waterfront. Some of Ali’s favorite activities are pottery, Crossfit, eating, skiing, and she is teaching herself to play the piano! When not living at camp, Ali can be found in Barre with her family (Penny, Harlow, and Randall) and their dog, Hazel. Ali can be reached at hosmerpointali@gmail.com.

+ Carrie Glessner (she/her)

Year-Round Director

With a background in Outdoor Education on sailing ships, Carrie began working in the HP office in 2011 and has been at camp ever since! Although her initial roles were largely parent-focused and facilities-focused, in recent years she has moved into a Director role and loves how this allows her to build more connections with counselor staff and campers (and spend more time singing around a campfire). Her favorite part of her job is the long-term relationships she builds with camp families and staff - from answering their first questions to registering campers for the next year on closing day and interviewing counselors for each season. Carrie and her husband, Will (who also helps with maintenance at camp), have a small farm in Westfield where they raise chickens, pigs, and their daughter, Neoma. When not at camp, you can often find Carrie painting with watercolors outdoors. You can reach Carrie at hosmerpointcarrie@gmail.com

Key Staff

+ Molly Sease (she/her)

Farm & Garden Director

+ Steve Yetman (he/him)

Head of Maintenance

+ Eliza Mairesse (she/her)

Head of Food Service

Eliza’s background is all about food - growing it, cooking it, preserving it, and most especially, feeding people. After 18 years running a catering company, she joined the Hosmer Point family in 2023 and not only wowed us with her delicious food but also made the whole camp feel like we have a caring mom making sure we eat well! Eliza and her husband divide their time between suburban MD and their new forever home just outside of Craftsbury Common. Their lives are made full by raising their children and keeping a small but ever evolving homestead complete with beloved dogs, a full kitchen garden, chickens, ducks, a rabbit, four ferrets and a ball python. Eliza’s happy places are her brightly painted kitchen and just about anywhere outside.

Advisory Board

The Hosmer Point Advisory Board's mission is to aid the camp Leadership Team in meeting the camp’s missions while sustainably growing and improving camp programs and infrastructure. The Board does this by serving as a sounding board for ideas and providing input and inspiration on future plans. It is a voice for parents, campers, alumni, community members, and all those who have an interest in a successful future for Hosmer Point.

The Board provides input during two meetings per year, as well as via email as needed. Meetings are held in late Fall and early Spring via Zoom. Board members must commit to attending at least one meeting per year.

If you'd like to help shape the future of Hosmer Point or have skills you'd like to share, please consider joining the Advisory Board! If interested, please email info@hosmerpoint.com.
